"The Canadian" 2009 was the best ever, and we are really excited about the 12th Annual Canadian 113, and the 6th Annual Canadian 226 in 2010.

Ontario's only Iron 226 Triathlon & Duathlon successfully incorporates the Iron 226 Triathlon & Duathlon, the Iron 226 Swim, the Iron 113 Triathlon & Duathlon, the Iron 113 SwimCycle, the Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon, the Try A Tri, the Super Sprint Triathlon, a Canoe/Kayak Triathlon, and the Wylie Ryan Kids' Surf and Turf. It's a triathlon and duathlon day like no other!

We invite you back, or for the first time, to participate, to volunteer, or to watch the amazing Iron 226 race and all the other races that are part of this multi-sport day. More than 1,100 racers enjoyed the 2009 event and we anticipate even more in 2010. Check out what many of the participants had to say in the testimonials section below.

All races enjoy traffic free courses and are spectator friendly. The day culminates with post race refreshments, meals and celebrations on site, where the stories and videos of the day are re-lived. The Iron 226 Awards Breakfast follows the next day.We hope you include "The Canadian" in your 2010 event plans - you won't be disappointed!

try a tri challenge
It's back - and its for anyone who has always wanted to "Try a Tri" or those who don't want to be too competitive. Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes are welcome in this event.

super sprint triathlon
This category and race will be separate from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first timer, once a year novice or recreational participant. The Super Sprint is a race geared to those who are a bit more serious or competitive.

iron 226 & 113 swimcycle
The 226 & 113 SwimCycle is back this year.  Many have requested this race, because their knees, ankles and/or hips are not handling the running very well.

The SwimCycle consists of the swim and the cycle portion of the Iron 226 and Iron 113 Triathlons. SwimCycle participants will start with the Triathlon participants, but will exit after the bike for the very short run to the Finish Line.

iron 226 & 113 swims

For the first time i we are offering a solo swim, and at two distances.  This allows those with strong swimming backgrounds to duke it out with the triathletes in the water, and who knows, maybe take a first step to trying a tri. Swimmers will be timed after finishing the swim at the beach, but must run/walk to the Finish Line to officially complete the race.

canoe & kayak triathlons
There are two divisions here; the Canoe Tri, and the Kayak Tri.  In the Kayak division, a participant completes the kayak, cycle, and the run solo.  In the Canoe division, the participant has a partner of the same gender in the canoe portion of the tri, but completes the remainder of the event solo.

You will enjoy a Mooney's Bay Beach start and finish on the paddle leg, which will head down the Bay towards Black's Rapids and the 2Km turn around. It then returns to the beach where participants join the other triathletes and duathletes in the T-Zone, for the cycle and the run.

iron 226 time limit

We have imposed a 16 hour time limit on the iron 226 triathlon and a 15 1/2 hour time limit on the iron 226 duathlon.  In addition to these limits, the swim course will close at 2 hours, and the cycle course will close at 10 hours. Participants still on those courses at those times will be required to withdraw from the competition.

iron 113 time limit
The time limit on the Half Iron 113 is the same as for the Iron 226 race - so effectively, there isn't a time limit.

iron 113 & iron 226 age requirement
In the Iron and Half Iron Distance races, entry is only open to those 19 years of age or older. We cannot allow anyone younger than 19 to compete at these distances. We recommend that younger participants compete in the Sprint Triathlon, Try A Tri, Super Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Duathlon, or Kayak Triathlon.

We are pleased to be able to offer a photo program for participants in the Canadian Triathlon & Duathlon.  Zoomphoto will be offering you classy photos commemorating your participation.  Just go to http://www.somersault.ca/results.htm the day after the event for your photo.

expo
A Canadian Expo will be held on site on race day and at Registration the day before.  Those interested in participating in this Expo, should contact Christine at info@somersault.ca for more information on booth rentals.

championchip timing
We use ChampionChip Timing. This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on your ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.  No chip = no time.

You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelet.

You must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

your results - Age as of December 31, 2010
Your personal results will be posted within 20 minutes of your finish. Check the results as soon as you can,. If you have finished in the top 3 in your age, weight, or relay category, go immediately to the Awards Table to claim your Award Medal 'Add On'.

If you find mistakes in the results, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct.  Have the results people make changes before you leave the event site, because they may not be able to do it after race day.

Results will be posted at www.somersault.ca the evening of the race.

race updates
We will email 3 weekly Canadian Newsletters to participants with the latest updates prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Canadian Newsletter through.
