school and corporate triathlon relays
Triathlon Relays are a fun way to get involved in your first triathlon, or to get together with co-workers or school mates and challenge yourself and your business and school competitors. The relay distances are set to encourage those who may not be triathlon participants, to come out and give it a tri. Thanks again to Primecorp for their support!

open sprint & super sprint relays
You don't have to be with a company or a school to enjoy the relays.  Any group of 2-3 people can participate in the Relays in the Open Category.  So get a couple of friends and come on out and give it a tri!

the try a tri challenge
Its for anyone who has always wanted to "Try a Tri" or those who don't want to be too competitive. The pool swim makes this event particularly friendly to first timers. Mountain Bikes and Hybrid Bikes are welcome in this event.

super sprint triathlon
This category and race will be separate from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first timer, once a year, novice or recreational participant, while the "Super Sprint" is geared to those who are more serious and who want to do short and fast tri.

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races.  This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on your ankle (Anklet) during the race.  This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.

You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelet.

You must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

your results - age as of december 31, 2010
Your personal results will be posted within 20 minutes of your finish. Check the results as soon as you can,. If you have finished in the top 3 in your age, weight, or relay category, go immediately to the Awards Table to claim your Award Medal 'Lanyard'.

If you find mistakes in the results, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct.  Have the results people make changes before you leave the event site, because they may not be able to do it after race day.

Results will be posted at www.somersault.ca the evening of the race.

swim course
It is very important that you know your anticipated swim time before race day. Please arrange a time trial swim over your race swim distance (100M, 200M, or 500M) before the day of the race. Please estimate your anticipated swim time realistically

Swim Caps Optional and Not Provided
Because this is a pool swim , we will not require swim caps, and we will not provide them. You may wear your own swim cap if you wish.

The Start Order and Procedure
The swim portion of the event, will start with the fastest swimmers in the pool first and the slowest in the pool last - with everyone in between them in the order of your anticipated swim time - fastest to slowest.  This will improve the swim experience as it will reduce the number of swimmers who are passed by another swimmer in the pool during the race.

On race day, on the pool deck, you will be assisted in finding your place in the start order of swimmers - fastest to slowest anticipated swim time.  Time Signs on the pool deck will help guide you in finding your proper place in the start line.

Try A Tri 100M Swim - Approximately 8:00 a.m.
100m swimmers will participate in heats of 5 swimmers (1 per lane), from the fastest to the slowest anticipated times. Swimmers will start every 30 seconds by either pushing off the end of the pool.  Each swimmer will swim 2 lengths of the pool, climb out of the pool, and walk to the exit door of the pool building.

Sprint Duathlon and Super Sprint 200M Swim - Approximately 8:30 a.m.
A 200m swimmer will start in lane 1, 3, and 5 of the pool every 15 seconds, by pushing off the end of the pool.  Each swimmer will swim 4 lengths of the pool, going down and back in each of the 2 extra wide lanes. After finishing the down and back swim in the first lane, you duck under the lane rope, to go down and back in the next lane, and then exit the pool after your 4th length.

Sprint 500M Swim - Approximately 9:00 a.m.
A 500m swimmer will start in lane 1of the pool every 15 seconds, by pushing off the end of the pool.  Each swimmer will swim 10 lengths of the pool, going down and back in each of the 5 extra wide lanes. After finishing the down and back swim in each lane, you duck under the lane rope, to go down and back in the next lane, etc., until you exit the pool from lane 5 after your 10th length.

To and From the Pool
It is a 60M run from pool to the Transition Zone, through a side door in the pool. You may choose bring a pair of shoes with you to the pool for the run, or just go in your bare feet. If you bring shoes, they must be left outside the building exit door. You may not wear footwear on the pool deck.

Somersault event maps are featured through the Google Maps service.  Participants may easily view course maps using your Explorer or Firefox browsers.

Click here for instructions on how to best view the course maps.

3Km Run Course
The run course will begin in or adjacent to the Transition Zone located on the field on the South side of the pool building. the course will follow the roadway and then the recreational path (gravel) through the forest on the East side of the Sportsplex football field. It returns to the T-zone of the Finish Line adjacent to the T-Zone.

5Km Run Course
The 5Km Run Course follows the same course described in the 3Km run above, but it does a double loop of the recreational trail through the forest before returning to the Finish Line adjacent to the Transition Zone.

13Km Cycle Course
The cycle course is an 6.5Km loop. Cyclists do the loop 2 times.

The cycle starts on the South Driveway of the Sportsplex adjacent to the pool building. The course turns right on Woodroffe Ave. , turns right at Hunt Club, right onto Cleopatra, left onto Camelot, right onto Merivale, right onto Slack Rd. right onto Woodroffe and then a final right onto the Sporsplex South Driveway to the T-Zone.

Except for the Slack Rd. section of the course, cyclists wail be using the curb lane and/or paved shoulder of the roadways. they wail be separated from motor vehicles by traffic cones. All significant intersections will be supervised by experienced marshals, or policed as determined by the Ottawa Police Service

26Km Cycle Course

race info updates
We will email 3 weekly Last Chance Triathlon Newsletters to participants with the latest updates prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
