We are proud to be organizing and hosting the 6th Annual Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon & Duathlon.  The Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon & Duathlon is the first outdoor triathlon of the Eastern Ontario season and it's right here in Ottawa on the shores of the Ottawa River.

This first outdoor triathlon event is back at Britannia Beach, on the Ottawa River and the Ottawa River Parkway. The site accommodated the growing number of participants in 2009 very well and has room to grow. Britannia Beach boasts many amenities, and has the cleanest water of all Ottawa beaches.

We feature the same line-up as the 2009 edition of the Ottawa Riverkeeper Triathlon & Duathlon with much more space in which to execute the event. The Ottawa Riverkeeper is an event for everyone, including the Try a Tri, and the Super Sprint Triathlon along with the SwimCycle, Kayak Tri and the longer triathlons and duathlons.

We are also pleased to be continuing to develop the Team Challenge Canoe/Swim Relays in support of the Ottawa Riverkeeper organization. Come on out and get your outdoor triathlon or duathlon season off to an early start.

This category and race will be separate from the Try A Tri Challenge. The Try A Tri is intended for the first-timer, once-a-year novice or recreational participant, while this race is geared to those who are a bit more serious but only want to go short and fast.

The SwimCycle consists of the swim and the cycle portion of the Olympic Triathlon.  Those that enter this category, will head to the Finish Line after the cycle leg.

olympic swim
Yes, this year, you can enter an Open Water Olympic Swim. It is a 1500M race and you start with the Olympic Distance Triathletes.  At the completion of the swim portion, you must run to the Finish Line to obtain your "swim" time and place.

canoe & kayak triathlons - presented by trailhead
There are two divisions here; the Canoe Tri, and the Kayak Tri.  In the Kayak division, a participant completes the kayak, cycle, and the run solo.  In the Canoe division, the participant has a partner of the same gender in the canoe portion of the tri, but completes the remainder of the event solo.

food and refreshments
There will be lots of healthy stuff to munch on for participants and volunteers following the races.

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use Sportstats ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races.  This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on your ankle during the race.  This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.  No chip = no time or place. You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their bracelet. You must return your ChampionChip Bracelet immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

your results - Age as of December 31, 2010
Your personal results will be posted within 20 minutes of your finish. Check the results as soon as you can. If you have finished in the top 3 in your age, weight, or relay category, go immediately to the Awards Table to claim your Award Medal 'Add On'.

If you find mistakes in the results, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct.  Have the results people make changes before you leave the event site, because they may not be able to do it after race day.

Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/results.htm the evening of the race.

volunteers
If your kids, spouse, family members or friends are accompanying you to the race, why not ask them if they would like to join us as volunteers, have some fun too!  Email us ahead of time if they will help, so we can assign them - info@somersault.ca. For moor information on volunteering, check out http://www.somersault.ca/volunteers.htm.

Clubs, teams and non-profit organizations are invited to inquire about our volunteer donation program - a donation in return for a group of members volunteering for the day. For information on this, go to http://www.somersault.ca/eventsfundraising.htm.

race info updates
We will email 3 weekly Ottawa Riverkeeper Tri/Du Newsletters to participants, with the latest updates, prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
