We are proud to be organizing and hosting the Ottawa River Triathlon & Duathlon.  It is the first outdoor triathlon of the Somersault season and it's right in downtown Ottawa on the shores of the Ottawa River.

The Ottawa River Tri & Du is held at Britannia Beach, and on the Ottawa River Parkway. Britannia Beach boasts many amenities, and has the cleanest water of all Ottawa beaches.

The event features a great same event line-up of individual races, and there is lots of space in which to execute the event. The Ottawa River Tri & Du is an event for everyone. It includes the Try a Tri, and the Super Sprint Triathlon along with the SwimCycle, Canoe and Kayak Tris, as well as the longer triathlons and duathlons.

Come on out and get your outdoor triathlon or duathlon season off to an early start.

food and refreshments
There will be lots of simple healthy stuff to munch on for participants and volunteers following the races.

championchip timing - by sportstats
We use Sportstats ChampionChip Timing at all Somersault races.  This timing system requires that all participants wear a ChampionChip timing chip on your ankle during the race.  This ankle bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed.  No chip = no time or place. You are responsible for obtaining your ChampionChip timing chip on race morning at the Sportstats Tent near the Finish Line.  Do this at least 30 minutes before your race - earlier is better!  Races will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their timing chip. You must return your ChampionChip timing chip immediately after you cross the finish line.  You are responsible for the cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.

your results - Age as of December 31, 2012
Your personal results will be posted within 20 minutes of your finish. Check the results as soon as you can. If you have finished in the top 3 in your age, weight, or relay category, go immediately to the Awards Table to claim your Award Medal lanyard.

If you find mistakes in the results, go to the Sportstats van near the Finish Line and provide them with the information you think is correct.  Have the results people make changes before you leave the event site, because they may not be able to do it after race day.

Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/results.htm the evening of the race.

race day parking - saturday June 9
Sprint, Kayak, Team Challenge Relays, Super Sprint, and Try a Tri races - are asked to park on the side streets rather than on the Park grounds.  Don't park in the Park! If you do, you may be along time getting out after your race!

Check out the map at for the location of your parking spots. They are marked in yellow on streets that you can get to by

  • Taking Ritchie St. (West of the Park entrance) and parking on the side streets - Grandeur, Haughton, Aheam, and Croft., or

course maps
There are changes in the 'run' courses in 2012. They remain the same distances as advertised previously, but the routes and nature of the course have changed from past years for logistical reasons.

The swim courses will also be outlined on the new map, at the distances advertised.

The course for the canoe and kayak starts on the beach along the pier, and heads West along the shoreline, almost to Andrew Haydon Park, where the paddlers circle a buoy and return.  Paddlers stay between the buoys and the shore throughout the paddle.

New maps of the courses will be provided on this event web site when they are available, after we have had a chance to measure them accurately in dry weather - and in pre-race newsletters prior to the event

general information

All entrants should be familiar with our operating procedures, so visit "General Information",.  There is information in this section that is not on this event page, so please read it - even if you are familiar with the event.  It is also a good idea to 'Refresh' your computer, and re-read event information the week before the event to be sure nothing has changed.

race info updates
We will email 3 weekly Ottawa River Tri/Du Newsletters to participants, with the latest updates, prior to the race.  These newsletters are very important as they will identify  changes, answer your questions and recommend race day procedures that will make your event day a better one.

Please provide an accessible email address on your entry form if you wish to receive these Newsletters. You may want to use a personal email address rather than your work email, because many employers utilize filters that will not let the Newsletter through.
