honourary race director - ken parker
Ken Parker was the founder of Sports 4 Emilie's Run for Women Only. Ken has strong Ottawa business and sports roots. He was the founder and former President & CEO of the successful Sirius Consulting Group Inc. of Ottawa. He was also the founder and head coach of the Ottawa Athletic Club Racing Team, a founding coach of the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club, and a co-founder, and initial Race Director of the National Capital Marathon (now the Ottawa Race Weekend).
Ken was named Volunteer of the Year at the ACT Sports Awards in 2002, received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for community service in 2003, and was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame as a builder, in 2005.We are grateful for Ken's devotion to the sport of running.
why a women's only race?
By starting up a women's only race, Ken hoped to encourage first time women runners to participate, and to provide an opportunity for competitive women to lead a race, set the pace, and be the overall race winners.
We are hoping to build on the more than 625 women and children who participated in Sports 4 Emilie's Run for Women Only last year.
The race is named after Emilie Mondor , the first Canadian women to run
sub 15:00 for 5K and an Athens Olympian. She had moved to Ottawa to train
for the marathon and was killed in a car accident in the fall of 2006 on her
way home to Mascouche, Quebec for a high school reunion.
course measurement & certification
The Sports 4 Emilie's 5Km Run for Women Only course was measured by Roger Burrows, and is certified by Athletics Canada/Run Canada. The Certification Code is ON-2006-005-JHC. This means that the finish times on Emilie's course are recognized as "official" 5km road times for personal best purposes

kidsport ottawa - the official charity of emilie's run
Somersault is proud to announce that KidSport Ottawa is the Official Charity of Sports4 Emilie's Run, and of the 2012 Somersault Event Series - ‘So All Kids Can Play!’
KidSport Ottawa is a not-for-profit organization that helps disadvantaged children and youth living in the City of Ottawa overcome the social and economic barriers limiting or preventing their participation in sport. This is achieved through the issuance of registration fees and/or equipment grants.
As a Somersault event participant you have the opportunity to support KidSport Ottawa by choosing to make a donation when you are entering online, or by clicking here to download a Pledge Form, which you can use for collecting donations from friends and neighbours before the event, and submit them to a KidSport Ottawa representative when you arrive at the event.
In association with all the Play it Again Ottawa locations, KidSport has a consignment account for donated used equipment where all proceeds in these accounts will go to Kidsport Ottawa.
Teaming up with Somersault Events, KidSport Ottawa is reaching out to all participants to rifle through all those boxes in your garage and basement in search of your old sporting good equipment that you no longer have any use for. Feel free to ask your friends and family if they have stuff lying around. For the month of June, Play it Again is asking for the following equipment;
BASEBALL - Gloves, Bats, Cleats
SOCCER - Adult Sized Cleats & Shin Pads
HOCKEY - Helmets, Gloves, Skates, Shin Pads, Elbow Pads

post
race refreshments
Enjoy the fruit, bagels, water, and eLoad after the run at the finish line.
championchip
timing
We use Sportstats ChampionChip timing at all Somersault races.
This timing system requires that all participants
wear a ChampionChip Bracelet on their ankle (Anklet) during the race. This bracelet contains a computer chip that allows you to be timed. No chip = no time.
You are responsible for
obtaining your ChampionChip Bracelet on race morning
from the timing people at the Sportstats Tent near
the Finish Line. Do this at least 30 minutes
before your race - earlier is better! Races
will not be held up waiting for those who forgot their
bracelet.
You must return your ChampionChip
Bracelet immediately after you cross
the finish line. You are responsible for the
cost if it is not returned - and it is expensive.
your
results (Age is as
of December 31, 2012)
Your personal results will be posted very soon after
you finish the race. Please check the results
as soon as you can, to be sure they are accurate.
If there are discrepancies, go to the Sportstats
van near the Finish Line and provide them with the
information you think is correct.
Results will
only adjusted after race day, if it is our error.
Have the results people make changes before you leave
the event site, if changes need to be made - thanks! Results will be posted at http://www.somersault.ca/resultsrun.htm within 24 hours of the race and are available at www.RunnersWeb.com.

race info updates
