Successful June & July Events
Emilie’s Run
A record turnout and another amazing weather day. Thanks to all who participated or helped host this growing celebration of women’s running and walking. Ladies, we hope you include Emilie’s Run on your calendar next year – it will be held on June 25, 2011
Smiths Falls Tri, Du, & Run –
What a great job Race Director Steve Wyrozub did, in engaging the Smiths Falls community in this, Canada’s oldest triathlon. Super weather and a large turnout of Smiths Falls workers, and volunteers, gave the event the shot in the arm it needed. Come on out and be part of the 2011 Smiths Falls Classic on June 26, 2011.
Greater Kingston SYDENHAM Tri, Du, & Run
Race Director Richard Cadman, and his local assistant Maryanne Takala helped put together the second annual event, and enjoyed record numbers too. Again, the community support fro the Legion and others made it a Sydenham day. Look for a name change in 2011 to the “Sydenham Tri, Du, & Run”, because we think people know where Sydenham is now. The 2011 event date will be July 3, 2011.
Graham Beasley Tri, Du, & Heritage Run
We think, with the Town’s permission, we have found a new, terrific site for this long running tribute to Graham Beasley. Centennial Park has received strong reviews from most who attended this year, so we are requesting a permanent move to the Park starting next year. Set aside July 10, 2011 for this one, and bring your friends.

Certificates
All participants in a 2010 Somersault event, may access and download their official performance certificate by going to http://www.eventsonline.ca/fc/somersault.html Why not keep an official record of your performance for future bragging rights.
Champions Challenge
The Champions Challenge is designed for those who plan to participate in more than one Somersault event, and who wish to see how you stack up against others of your age, gender, or weight – in Run, Tri, Du, Canoe, Kayak, or Swim Events in the Somersault program. To learn more about this program, or to see how you are doing in the CC Rankings, go to http://www.somersault.ca/championships.htm
Series Sponsors
Series sponsorship contributions to the Somersault program, allow us to enhance the overall participant package and experience. The Somersault event program is sustained by participant fees, and support from these sponsors. In virtually every case, this sponsorship is in the form of ‘in kind’ contributions; contributions that are focused on building the participant package and experience, and for that we are grateful to the series sponsors below (apologies to any we miss).
eLoad, Beacon Lite, Taste of Nature, Bagel Bagel, Primus Business Services, EuroTriShop.com, CHIMO Hotel, Trailhead, PECCO’s, Imperial Barber Shoppe, CycleLogik, Udderly Smooth, RunnersWeb.com, iRun Magazine, Ottawa Outdoors Magazine, Re:Form Body Clinic, Get Out There Magazine, Nineteen Wet Suits, RunningSkirts, Booster Juice, VitaminWater, ZoomPhoto.ca, Road Warrior, Popeye’s Supplements, Sportstats,
We continue to keep our eyes open for a long term major sponsor that will allow us to grow the program, but are very pleased that participant entry fees are able to sustain the modest program we now offer.
Series Support Groups
We are very pleased to enjoy a working relationship with organizations who provide support at each Somersault event. They officiate, and provide first aid, and the logistical support to allow Somersault events to be fair and as safe as we can make them. These groups include:
Canadian Ski Patrol
First Aid & Emergency Response
Somersault Motorcycle Patrol Group
Cycle Course Safety & Officiating
Brockville Kayakers
On Water Officiating, & Supervision
City of Ottawa & Contracted Lifeguards

Book of the Month Offer from Human Kinetics
The Runner’s Edge
Do I need a rest?
By Stephen McGregor and Matt Fitzgerald
Managing fatigue by reducing your training as necessary is one of your most important responsibilities as a competitive runner. Fatigue is a symptom of incomplete physiological adaptation to recently completed training. When fatigue persists, it means that your body is not benefiting from the hard training that is causing your fatigue. A day or two of soreness and low energy after hard workouts is normal and indeed much preferable to never feeling fatigued, which would indicate that you weren’t training hard enough to stimulate positive fitness adaptations. Extended recovery deficits, however, must be avoided at all costs. To see more click http://www.humankinetics.com

Road Warrior Program
Somersault races participate in the "Road Warrior" Program, a handicap rating system for runners (like golf) that rewards those who 'improve' in their running (instead of win their age groups). You can win additional prizes at our races when you're registered as a Road Warrior. Those Road Warrior socks and hats and soon bags you see out there are prizes they won for improving. You can too.
